SUMMARY: |
The Junior Landscape Architect/Designer supports the Design Studio in developing thoughtful, creative, and constructible landscape design solutions for residential and commercial projects. Working under the guidance of senior landscape architects and designers, design consultants, and project managers, this role contributes to the design process through site analysis, conceptual design, design development, drafting, planting design, construction documents, and permitting. The position also supports bid coordination, estimating, and construction proposal assembly, helping translate design concepts into well-developed, accurately priced projects while gaining valuable professional experience in landscape architecture and landscape construction. |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Collaborate with senior designers and project managers through all phases of the design process, from concept development through construction documentation and installation to ensure the client’s vision is expressed throughout the entire design and installation phase.
- Participate in on-site project meetings to perform necessary phases of the design process and collaborate with other team members, internal departments including sales, construction, and property improvement teams to support project objectives.
- Assist with interpretation of permit requirements and applications.
- Manage a variety of projects while delivering design-driven solutions with the ability to communicate them through hand sketches, AutoCAD drawings, renderings, and other graphic presentations.
- Support the estimating process by gathering and organizing project information, quantities, pricing, and subcontractor/vendor bids.
- Assemble construction proposals, including scope of work, pricing, alternates, and supporting documentation.
- Grow your network by developing relationships with industry professionals through industry associations and networking partners. This may require hours worked outside normal business hours.
- Adhere to individual, departmental, and company performance goals.
- Develop an understanding of client needs and proactively ensure they are met through the design process.
- Understand and promote the importance of environmental stewardship/conservation and respect for natural resources in conjunction with company goals and objectives as they relate to client desires and sustainability initiatives.
- Site visits, office meetings, and conference calls are often required to solve problem-related issues and develop drawings further. (occasional evening and off-hour coordination may be required)
- Self-motivated to manage a schedule to meet the team’s and client’s goals.
- Exceptional communication, professionalism, and positive relations with coworkers, clients, and the public are always expected.
- Communicate and resolve needs, issues, concerns, and/or problems to supervisor in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture or equivalent with a focus on design required.
- 3-7 years of professional experience in landscape architecture, landscape design or related field; internship experience is preferred.
- Understanding of residential and/or commercial landscape design principles and practices.
- Knowledge of plant and hardscape materials. Skilled in planting design and construction methodology preferred.
- Strong hand graphics skills are required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required; LandFX experience is preferred. Knowledge of SketchUP and Photoshop is a plus.
- Bid procurement and estimating experience is preferred, and knowledge in Aspire or other estimating software is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, customers, managers, coworkers, and the general public.
- Interest in pursuing professional Landscape Architect licensure is preferred.
- Ability to meet short and long-term deadlines to ensure projects stay on track and meet client expectations.
- Ability to work independently and/or in teams.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Candidates must have a valid local driver’s license and good driving record.
- Has own transportation to participate in job site activities.
- Must be able to communicate in English, including: read, write, and with use of computers and phones.
